Proper installation guarantees a clean, accessible, and well-draining manifold.
Step 1: Excavate the Site
Dig a hole slightly wider than the 21 1/4″ x 15 15/16″ bottom footprint of the standard box, ensuring it is deep enough to accommodate the 12-inch height plus a gravel base.
Step 2: Add a Gravel Base
Pour 2 to 3 inches of washed pea gravel into the bottom of the hole. This critical step ensures proper drainage so your valves never sit in standing water.
Step 3: Position the Box
Place the black valve box body over your valve manifold. Ensure the incoming and outgoing irrigation pipes route cleanly under the bottom edges.
Step 4: Backfill and Level
Make sure the top edge of the box sits perfectly flush with the final soil grade. Backfill dirt firmly around the outside of the box, then drop the green lid into place.
