Build your high-capacity pipe-threaded head assembly safely.
Step 1: Prep the Threads
Because this filter utilizes Pipe Threads (MPT), you must apply 3 to 4 wraps of Teflon tape to both the inlet and outlet threads to ensure a watertight seal. Do not use liquid pipe dope.
Step 2: Install the Filter
Thread the Arkal filter into your PVC manifold. Because it is rated for constant pressure, you have the flexibility to install it either upstream (before) or downstream (after) of your automated valves. Ensure the directional flow arrow points downstream toward your emitters.
Step 3: Connect Pressure Gauges (Recommended)
Use 1/4″ female couplers to attach 1/4″ liquid-filled pressure gauges to the ports on top of the filter. This allows you to monitor the pressure differential to know exactly when the internal discs are clogged and need cleaning.
Step 4: Routine Cleaning
When pressure drops, turn off the water supply, unscrew the main filter canister, and remove the internal disc spine. Loosen the tension nut at the top of the spine so the discs separate slightly, then rinse them thoroughly with a hose before reassembling.
